Job Description

AECOM’s Water Business Line is actively seeking highly motivated GIS Specialist for a full-time opportunity for either the Denver, CO or Cleveland, OH metropolitan areas. This is for a long-term and large-scale construction-based program.

This role offers an exciting opportunity for those who enjoy working in a Team environment and independently applying their skills to support a dynamic and fast-paced program as to maintain its progress and overall status. The role requires this person to be detail-oriented, possess solid technical computer and writing skills, be attentive to detail, able to communicate and represent information to Team members.

This position requires a forward thinker, an ambitious attitude, and a willingness to support requests by the Program Team. The candidate will need to be adaptable to change as additional and/or different responsibilities may be assigned.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

GIS Mapping and Applications

  • Develop maps and map products (map books, visual aids, slides) utilizing GIS data and follow template map designs.

  • Produce a variety of mapping products for presentations, reports, and other documents.

  • Support web map (AGOL, ArcGIS Portal) datasets, web maps, applications and Esri field solutions (ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey123).

  • Using ESRI tools, perform data analysis from various sources, including open data sources.

  • Perform GIS data collection with field application on mobile devices paired to GPS as needed.

  • Spatial Geodatabase entry and data manipulation, including setup of field schema, domains, relationship classes, topology rules, or networks.

  • Support data acquisition in the field using ESRI platform for field data collection.

  • Develop data collection solutions for projects and going into the office as needed to prepare GPS equipment.

Data Analysis and Processing

  • Analyze technical problems and devise innovative approaches and alternative solutions to moderately complex issues.

  • Process and analyze raster and vector geospatial data in support of client’s deliverables.

  • Create, edit, and maintain geospatial databases and metadata on multiple simultaneous projects.

  • Create, collect, convert, analyze, and integrate geospatial and non-spatial datasets in accordance with industry standards.

  • Input diverse data types into GIS databases. (longitude and latitude coordinates, aerial imagery, tabular data, and digitizing maps)

Teamwork Environment

  • Collaborate with project teams and clients to understand project needs and deliver GIS solutions of moderate to significant scope and complexity.

  • Work independently, in a fast-paced multi-tasking environment with other planners, engineers, and GIS staff across multiple offices to support the Program.

  • Adaptable team member, able to work autonomously in dynamic work environments.

Other Potential Duties

  • Review data for acceptance, accuracy, quality, or completeness of documentation and metadata.

  • Leverage Microsoft Excel for data manipulation, visualization, and reporting to clean and preprocess data before importing it into GIS databases or reporting.

  • Perform data conversion from multiple formats (CAD, PDF, TIFF, Excel) into GIS data.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Geography, Social Science, Environmental Science, Data Science, Engineering, or related field and 4 years experience in GIS, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years’ experience in a GIS multidisciplinary project support role with infrastructure experience.

  • 5 years experience with ESRI’s ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcGIS Pro and Microsoft software.ArcGIS Online (AGOL) or Portal

  • Design, deploy and manage geospatial data collection reporting applications using data collected in ArcGIS Fields, Collector, Survey123, Workforce, and Dashboards within AGOL.

  • Strong technical ability, with excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to understand and use of GIS software and programming languages (such as Python or GIS code languages).

  • Advanced Excel Skills: Extensive knowledge of advanced features, complex formulas, automation using macros, and data analysis.

  • Proficient in using formulas, creating charts, and working with functions like VLOOKUP and pivot tables.

  • Basic understanding of relational database organization, design, and functionality.

  • Coursework or experience using Python and/or model builder to customize production tools.

  • Entry level ability to create custom tools, scripts, or applications within GIS software geospatial analysis using languages like Python, JavaScript, or SQL.

  • Technical knowledge of geographic concepts, including coordinate systems, data collection methods, spatial data management, analysis, data visualization and cartographic design.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of cartographic design and production concepts and principles.

Compensation

Exempt Position: Offered rate of compensation for Colorado locations only will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position typically is $74,880 - $85,280.
